If you've ever made the scenic drive up to Horsetooth, chances are you've noticed the distinctive house with its gracefully curved copper roof, cutting a striking figure against the mountain backdrop as you slice through the mountain from Fort Collins.
At the heart of this project lies the concept of harnessing the breathtaking landscape and its surroundings, seamlessly blending the main floor with nature through the strategic use of glass, inviting patios, and expansive living spaces. The great room and kitchen serve as the central gathering spots, while the Primary Bedroom is thoughtfully nestled into the earth, discreetly harmonizing with the natural environment.
This project represents a contemporary take on off-the-grid living. It boasts a robust solar array on its southern and western roofs, generating ample energy to power the entire home. The house has been cleverly integrated into the hillside to tap into the earth's natural heating and cooling properties. Two wood-burning fireplaces serve as the primary heat sources, forming the backbone of the home's heating system. Remarkably, the entire structure is constructed using AAC Blocks, ensuring resistance to wildfires, enhanced sound insulation (STC Rating), and surpassing insulation standards outlined in the IBC.
